The short answer: Businesses still need people and marketing leadership. AI can support drafting, organizing information and other defined tasks. People must understand customers, choose priorities, make commercial judgments and take responsibility for results. A tool can produce an output; it does not replace an accountable team.
Marketing needs leadership, not just more output
A practice owner does not need a bigger pile of posts to approve. They need the right patients to understand the practice and a team ready to respond. A service business needs to decide which customers it can serve well, what it can credibly promise and how inquiries reach the right person. Those decisions require people who know the business, listen to customers and connect strategy with day-to-day execution.
That is the role of marketing leadership: set direction, align the people doing the work, decide where to invest effort and learn from what happens. AI can assist with a defined task inside that process. It should not be presented as the person leading it, or as a substitute for the expertise and relationships a business needs.
A tool that remembers your colors and drafts a post can save time. It can also confidently reuse an old logo, publish an inaccurate opening hour or describe a service your team does not offer. Those are business-control problems, not writing problems. Faster output makes a clear approval process more valuable.
What changed, and what has not been verified?
On October 21, 2026, Google announced a Gemini business landing page, marketing and finance capabilities, and additional connected apps. Its announcement describes tools for retaining a business's visual style and working with business information. An announcement is not evidence that every feature is available in every account today.
Google had already announced Business Profile connections and Business notebooks on June 10. The October announcement is an expansion, not the first appearance of connected business context. Google's current help documentation says available connections depend on the account, device, country and app. Work-account guidance differs from personal-account guidance. Check the actual supported actions before designing a process around them.
ResNova has not verified these features inside your account. Nor does connecting an owner's business systems establish that customers will see that business more often in search or AI recommendations. Operational assistance and public discovery are different jobs.
The first decision is not which app to connect
First choose the customer problem. For a dental office, it might be unclear new-patient information on the public website. For an HVAC business, it might be seasonal hours that disagree across public pages. For a professional-services firm, it might be a service description that attracts the wrong inquiries.
Write that problem in one sentence, then define the smallest useful action. “Prepare a corrected hours update for review” is testable. “Handle our marketing” is not. Keep the first workflow small enough that a person can review every output and recognize what changed.
A four-part approval card
Before the first live action, complete this card. It is ResNova's proposed operating framework, not a Google requirement or product feature.
- Facts: Which source is authoritative for services, locations, hours, pricing and claims? Record when it was checked. If the sources disagree, stop and resolve the difference rather than asking the assistant to guess.
- Assets: Which exact logo, colors, typography and photographs may be used? Keep retired creative in an archive that is clearly excluded. A saved brand style is useful input, not proof that the finished image follows it.
- Actions: May the tool research, draft, edit a saved draft, publish or send? Separate those permissions. Approving a design does not approve a new mailing audience, a paid campaign or an account connection.
- Acceptance: Who checks the finished work, what must pass and how is it reversed? Keep the source, final output, publication URL and approval together so the next person can understand the decision.
Example: an independent practice's public service page
This is an illustrative workflow, not a client result. Suppose a practice wants to explain a newly offered service. The practice owner provides the approved service description, provider details and appointment route. The assistant drafts clearer public copy using those facts. It does not infer clinical suitability, invent credentials or promise treatment outcomes.
The reviewer checks the visible page on a phone, confirms the provider and service wording, and follows the appointment link without submitting a fake booking. Private patient details and appointment records are not needed to review public copy. If a later project requires sensitive information, pause for an appropriate privacy, security and contractual review; a general-purpose app connection is not a healthcare-compliance assessment.
Only then is the page published through the practice's established process. The reviewer reopens the public page and checks the actual result. A message saying “saved” or “scheduled” is not evidence that patients can use it.
What should remain human-approved?
Keep commercial promises, medical or legal claims, pricing changes, access changes, new email audiences and paid activity behind explicit approval. The correct boundary depends on the organization and the action. Do not assume a tool's ability to perform a task means the business has authorized it.
For routine public updates, use a short checklist: correct identity, accurate facts, readable creative, working destination and one clear next step. Inspect the final pixels, not just a filename or the instruction that produced them. Recheck scheduled material after a brand change; yesterday's approval may refer to assets that are no longer allowed.
Measure the work at the customer end
Keep efficiency and growth separate. Track review time, rework and publishing errors to judge the operating process. Track relevant inquiries, completed appointments or qualified sales conversations to judge commercial response. A faster drafting process can be useful even before lead volume changes; it should not be reported as a revenue increase.
For low-traffic businesses, start with whether the route works at all. Can a prospective customer understand the service, find the right contact option and complete the next step? Preserve measured discovery source separately from a person's answer to “How did you hear about us?” Do not classify an unexplained direct visit as an AI referral.
What to do this week
Choose one public-facing workflow. Assemble its current facts and approved assets. Ask the assistant for one draft, with uncertainty clearly marked. Review the output, test the destination and publish only through the established authorized route. Reopen the public result and record what actually happened. Expand access only after that small process works.
Our view: better tools need clear human leadership. ResNova provides fractional CMO leadership and works with the people responsible for websites and conversion, marketing systems and follow-up. We help connect commercial priorities with practical execution and measurement. AI can support that work; it does not replace the people leading it. Use the Marketing System Assessment to identify which connection needs attention first.
Frequently asked questions
Direct answers for the next decision.
Can AI replace marketing leadership?
No. Businesses need people to understand buyers, set strategy, exercise judgment, coordinate execution and remain accountable for results. AI can support defined tasks within a human-led marketing process.
Does connecting Gemini to a business account guarantee more search visibility?
No. A connection can support the owner’s workflows, but it does not establish improved rankings, AI recommendations, website traffic or leads. Measure those outcomes separately.
Are the new business features available in every account?
Do not assume so. Google described a rollout, and its help documentation notes that available connections and actions vary by account and other factors. Verify the supported actions in the actual account.
What is a safe first marketing workflow for connected AI?
A narrowly scoped draft using approved public facts and assets, reviewed by a named person before any live change. Record the output, verification and reversal path.
